How to Connect Plausible Analytics to Claude and ChatGPT with MCP

You can query Plausible Analytics from Claude through an MCP server. It is not an official Plausible integration. Tracksible has no MCP feature.

The short answer

You can query Plausible Analytics from Claude through an MCP server. Plausible’s docs point to a community-built server made by Sentry, which needs a Plausible Stats API key. It is not an official Plausible integration. Plausible has said it is working on an official MCP, so check its docs for the current option.

What an MCP server does

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s a standard way for an AI assistant to call outside tools. An MCP server for Plausible sits between the AI and your stats: you ask a question in plain English, the AI asks the server, and the server queries Plausible’s Stats API and hands the answer back.

You don’t write API queries. You do need to give the server a key.

Your options today

Sentry’s community Plausible MCP

This is the one Plausible’s docs mention. It was built by the Sentry team, it lets you query your Plausible data through AI tools such as Claude, and it needs a Stats API key. Plausible’s docs say plainly that it’s a community-built tool, not an official Plausible integration.

According to its GitHub README, it offers four read-only query tools: traffic over time, breakdowns (by page, source, country, device and more), goal conversions, and comparisons between two date ranges. You can use their hosted instance with your own key, or run it yourself.

Multi-source connectors that include Plausible

Some tools connect lots of data sources to AI assistants, and Plausible is one of them. Windsor.ai, for example, lists Plausible as a source with ChatGPT and Claude as destinations. Read their page for current pricing and setup. We haven’t tested it.

Plausible’s official MCP: in progress

Plausible is building its own. On 28 Sep 2026, @PlausibleHQ posted “we’re working on an official MCP”, and the roadmap item for a Plausible MCP server is marked In progress. There’s no launch date. When it ships, it’s likely to be the simplest option, so keep an eye on Plausible’s docs.

What you need first

A Stats API key

The Sentry server needs a Plausible Stats API key. On Plausible’s pricing table, the Stats API is included on the Business plan and above. See our Plausible pricing guide for what each plan includes.

Check that your Plausible plan includes Stats API access before you start.

A share link won’t work here. The server asks for an API key.

Keep the key private

An API key gives whoever holds it read access to your stats. Treat it like a password:

  • Create a key just for this, so you can revoke it without breaking anything else.
  • Put it in your MCP config, never into a chat message.
  • Don’t commit config files with the key in them to a public repo.
  • Revoke it in Plausible if you stop using the server or think it leaked.

If you’re deciding between a key and a share link for other tools, our share link vs API key guide covers the trade-offs.

Step by step: add the Plausible MCP in Claude

We haven’t run these steps ourselves. Below is what the project’s README says, as of 16 Oct 2026. Setup instructions change, so follow the README itself when you set it up.

Per the project’s README:

  1. Hosted, with your own key. There’s a hosted instance at plausible-mcp.sentry.dev. In Claude Code, you add it with claude mcp add, using the /mcp URL and an Authorization: Bearer header holding your Plausible API key. The README warns to keep the URL before --header, or the command fails.
  2. Claude Desktop and other MCP clients. You can instead add a plausible entry to your MCP client config with the same /mcp URL and Authorization header.
  3. Local instead. Clone the repo, install and build it (the README asks for Node.js 20 or newer), then point Claude Code or Claude Desktop at the built file with your key set as PLAUSIBLE_API_KEY.

For creating the key itself, see Plausible’s docs, which link to the Stats API reference.

One thing to know before you choose hosted: your key goes to a server run by a third party. If that bothers you, run it locally.

The README also describes an /internal endpoint with sign-in instead of a key. On the hosted instance, that one is for Sentry staff only, so ignore it unless you self-host.

What about ChatGPT?

As of our research on 11 Oct 2026, there’s no Plausible-branded app in ChatGPT. Multi-source connectors like Windsor.ai list ChatGPT as a destination for Plausible data.

We haven’t tested this server with ChatGPT, so we’re not giving steps for it. If you want to try, check OpenAI’s own help docs for what ChatGPT currently supports.

Example questions to ask

Once it’s connected, keep questions specific. A few that fit what the server’s tools cover:

  • “What were my top 10 pages in the last 7 days?”
  • “Which referral sources sent the most visitors this month?”
  • “What’s the conversion rate for my signup goal on /blog this month?”
  • “Compare this week’s visitors with last week’s.”

Check any number that matters against your Plausible dashboard. AI assistants can misread a result or pick the wrong date range.

When a dashboard or phone app is still quicker

An AI chat is good for one-off questions. It’s slow for the daily check: open the chat, type the question, wait.

For that, a dashboard you can glance at is quicker. That’s what we built Tracksible for. It’s a phone app for Plausible on iPhone and Android, with realtime visitors, today’s traffic, top pages, sources and goals on one screen, plus home screen widgets on Pro. It’s free for one site, and it connects with a Stats API key or a share link, with no account to create.

To be clear: Tracksible has no MCP feature and doesn’t connect to ChatGPT or Claude. It’s for looking at your numbers, not chatting with them. See the features page, and how Tracksible handles your data.

Plenty of people will use both: the app for the daily glance, an MCP server for the odd deep question.

FAQs

Does Plausible have an official MCP server?

Not yet, as of mid-October 2026. Plausible has said it’s working on one, and the roadmap item is marked In progress. No launch date has been published.

Which MCP server do Plausible’s docs mention?

The community-built server made by the Sentry team. Plausible’s docs say it’s not an official Plausible integration.

Do I need a Stats API key?

Yes, for the Sentry server. On Plausible’s pricing table, the Stats API comes with Business and above.

Not with that MCP server, which needs an API key. Share links do work in Tracksible if you only want to view stats.

Is it safe to give an AI my analytics key?

It’s as safe as where the key ends up. Use a dedicated key, keep it in your config and out of chat messages, prefer a local install if you don’t want a third party handling it, and revoke it when you’re done.

Does Tracksible connect to ChatGPT?

No. Tracksible is a phone app for viewing Plausible stats. It has no MCP feature and no ChatGPT or Claude integration.
