Use a share link when you were given view access to one dashboard. Use a Stats API key when you administer the Plausible account. Tracksible accepts both. There is never a Tracksible account to create.
Start with who should hold the secret
A Stats API key can pull statistics for sites on that Plausible account. Treat it as an administrator secret. Do not send it to a client so they can glance at one site.
A share link grants whoever has it the view that Plausible attached to that link. That is the right secret to send when the other person should see a dashboard, not manage the account.
Tracksible stores whichever you paste on the device. It does not turn a share link into an API key.
What a share link is for
Paste a Plausible shared dashboard link into the Tracksible app and open the view you were given. No Stats API key. Setup is the share-link path in getting started.
That path suits clients, teammates, and anyone who should not hold the account key. The share-link dashboard page covers the same flow on a phone.
Revoke the link in Plausible when the work ends. Deleting it on the phone is not enough.
What a Stats API key is for
Create a Stats API key in Plausible when you administer the dashboard. Tracksible sends requests to the instance you configure. Requirements depend on your Plausible plan; check Plausible’s Stats API documentation.
Use a key for sites you run. Do not use it as a briefing shortcut. For client access without handing over the key, read give clients Plausible access without sharing API keys.
Side by side
| Share link | Stats API key | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | Someone given view access to a dashboard | Someone who administers the Plausible account |
| What you paste | The shared dashboard link | The Stats API key, plus the instance address |
| How to revoke | Revoke or replace the link in Plausible | Rotate or delete the key in Plausible |
| Typical use | Clients, teammates, a single dashboard you were sent | Your own sites, agency accounts you operate |
| Tracksible account needed | Never | Never |
Credentials stay on the device either way. See the privacy policy for what is stored.
Limits that are not Tracksible’s
Available metrics depend on the Plausible plan, permissions, server version and connection type. A share link is not an API key. Tracksible retrieves what that connection can see. It does not invent extra stats.
We do not publish a server-version matrix. If a view is missing, check the link or key in Plausible before assuming the app omitted it.
